DOWNEY SCHOOL MISSION
The mission of the Downey School is to provide a supportive environment where students can maximize their potential in English, Reading and Math while also emphasizing the importance of free thinking, responsibility, diversity and respect for all. Our staff is committed to the creation of a stimulating climate which motivates students to become self-initiating and discriminating in making decisions regarding learning.
DOWNEY SCHOOL VISION
Students at the Downey School will be proficient in Reading and Mathematics at the end of Grade 5, as measured using multiple assessments, including but not limited to the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System.
The Downey School Offers ...
- A diverse population made up of regular education and Special Education students.
- Updated technology including SmartBoards, Elmos, Renaissance Responders and three computer labs.
- An ambitious Walk to Read program that helps all students become successful early readers.
- After-school program focusing on academic, enrichment and family involvement activities, and an Extended Day program.

LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
Students at the Downey have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular and after-school activities that foster creativity, problem-solving and collaborative skills. We offer intramurals, chorus, band and Community Schools programs.

Throughout the year, our staff and parents/guardians work together to offer a variety of family events that allow our students to build connections with their school community.
